When I started fighting jiu-jitsu twenty-three years ago, I was looking for something different for my life that could make me feel better mentally and give me health and physical energy. Since I had played judo for a long time, my father convinced me to try jiu-jitsu, a martial art that has perfect techniques and can give strength to surpass all kinds of challenges. It was exactly what I was looking for.

As a result, I met the Gracie family. Helio and Rickson Gracie were my first teachers. Then, Rickson Gracie came to The US and I continued training in Brazil with Royer Gracie, who gave me my black belt.

When I was brown belt, I opened my own Jiu-Jitsu studio on Bonsucesso, suburb of Rio de Janeiro. During the next 6 years I taught there and formed a team of big athletics, such as Daniel Dias, Cristiano Venancio, Joao Miguel, Marcio, Carlos and many more.

The opportunity of coming to the U.S. showed up and in October of 2001 I arrived here with the intention of teaching a brand new group of students the entire range of my Jiu Jitsu techniques.

I began teaching classes at the Rickson Gracie Jui-Jitsu academy, which continued for almost three years. Over there, I was able to share all of my knowledge that I had acquired during my life.

Still feeling a big necessity to give something more to my life and family,

I decided to open my own studio here, in the U.S.. Through HBJJ, situated right in Hollywood, I will continue my work teaching Jiu-Jitsu with enthusiasm and determination and believing that from HBJJ, other big athletics will graduate from my Royler Gracie Team.
